The mid size SUV is manufactured by the German manufacturer Porsche and has been in production since 2002. North American sales began in 2003. The Cayenne platform was developed by Porsche and was shared with the first generation Volkswagen Touareg. It is the first V8-engined vehicle built by Porsche since 1995, when the Porsche 928 was discontinued. It is also the manufacturer's first off-road variant vehicle since its Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s, and the first Porsche with four doors. All engines have featured direct injection technology since 2008. In 2010, the second generation Cayenne was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March following an online reveal. The second generation received a facelift in 2014 with minor external changes.
